Virtualisation Overview

Types of Virtualisation Technologies

  • Hardware Virtualisation

The server's hardware has a virtual server technology operating system installed so that is can be used as a Virtual Host Server. This enables the system now to run multiple operating systems simultaneously on the same hardware as virtual machines or virtual images. This in essence is how we begin to consolidate multiple servers onto the same host system.

  • Desktop Virtualisation (VDI)

Desktop Virtualisation of VDI to which it is referred to within VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure is how we virtualise your end users data. They will find that their operating system, application and all of their personal data will be stored inside a virtual machine that is hosted from either your own server within your office or hosted within Obsidian Networks Data Centre. What this means is that all of your users computer systems are hosted and managed in a single place. This makes supporting your business a lot simple as we can implement technologies that in the event of any virus infection or spyware being downloaded and installed, rather than the hassle of trying to remove this, the user can simply restart their machine and be presented with an entirely fresh, working copy of their computer and data. All as though the virus/spyware was never there.

  • Storage Virtualisation

Storage virtualisation is the combining of storage space from multiple network storage devices so that to the end user it looks like only one storage device is present. The management of these storage devices can then be administered from a central location making storage backups, recovery and archiving a much more simple process.
